“The design process of the C-01 was a labor of love, there were many challenges, ensuring that the bike not only touches your visual senses with its timeless blend of classic appeal and modern execution, but that is safe and ergonomically sound was critical to me,” explained Simon. “We have worked hard to create a motorcycle with very distinctive features such as a clean main body, an extremely low side profile, a bold stance, a unique air intake, logical part line solutions and clean graphics.”
Lotus will not be manufacturing the C-01, however. The luxury automobile company has granted Kodewa, a German sports car manufacturer and engineering consultancy, a license to produce the motorcycle.
“We set out to create a bike that isn’t just great to ride but also represents a piece of art in motion,” said Dr. Colin Kolles of Koweda, the man responsible for the original idea to create the C-01. “Over the years I have seen my fair share of style over substance, what this bike brings to the market is a unique combination of both: state of the art technology with a truly jaw-dropping aesthetic.”
The C-01 will be powered by a 75-degree V-Twin, displacing 1195cc via 105mm bore and 69mm stroke, with power claims of almost 200 horsepower. The ample ponies are fed out to the rear wheel via chain final drive, six-speed transmission and wet hydraulic clutch.
The chassis is constructed of aero tech steel, titanium and carbon fiber, with the C-01 claiming a dry weight of 399 pounds. An upside down fork soaks up bumps out front while twin shocks handle duties out back. Twin 320mm discs and four piston calipers provide stopping power in the front and a single 220mm disc is pinched by a two piston caliper at the rear.
Different liveries will be available that honor Lotus racing heritage and there will also be a customization service for buyers that want to realize their own aesthetic on the C-01.
Gunter Holzer, CEO of Holzer Group, ““I was one of the first people to ride it and I have to say I was very impressed. Together we have found that delicate balance between raw, aggressive power and breath-taking handling. The team has created something very special, it looks incredible, it sounds fantastic but above all, the ride is sensational. I’m very happy.”
