BMW Motorrad maintained its record-setting sales-pace through March 2014, recording the best monthly sales figures in the company’s history. Worldwide BMW sold 15,183 motorcycles and maxi scooters during the month, a 16.2% improvement over March 2013. The German marque’s year-to-date sales figures reached 28,719 through the first quarter, a 16.1% increase over the first three months of 2013.

“We got off to an excellent start to the new motorcycle season with a sales increase of 16.1% as of March,” said BMW Motorrad Head of Sales and Marketing’s Heiner Faust. “In the first three months of this year we have supplied more motorcycles and maxi scooters than ever before in a first quarter. What is more, last month was the most successful in the company’s history with 15,183 vehicles sold and an increase of 16.2%. Based on this excellent quarterly result we have positive expectations of the upcoming months.”

Demand has grown across the board, with significant gains in southern European markets such as Italy and Spain. Germany remains the top market for BMW, but the overall success is also aided by strong sales in France, Brazil, and the United States.

BMW sold 1525 units in the US in March 2014, marking a 2.8% improvement over the same period the previous year. Year-to-date BMW has sold 2964 motorcycles and maxi scooters in the States, a 4.4% increase over the first three months of 2013. One of the best performing models in the US for the month of March is BMW’s new R nineT (195 sold), followed by the R1200GS Adventure (179 sold) and R1200RT (165 sold).
