Monster Energy Graves Yamaha’s Cameron Beaubier took the Race 1 win in AMA Pro SuperBike at Road America. Beaubier’s teammate, Josh Hayes, crossed the line in second followed by Yoshimura Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas in third.

Beaubier and Hayes fought with Cardenas during the opening laps for the lead, with the Colombian rider making a forceful presence early on. Both Yamaha riders were able to get the best of Cardenas before the race matured too much though, and proceeded to open a gap on the field.

Hayes moved ahead of Beaubier mid-race and put some space between himself and his teammate, but Beaubier kicked it into gear during the final laps. The 2013 SportBike champion reeled Hayes in and was on the Mississippi native’s rear tire as the two came across the start/finish straight. Beaubier took advantage of the drafting opportunity entering the final lap to regain the lead, and from there played a strong defense against Hayes, closing any opportunity for Hayes to answer back before the finish.

“Josh was riding awesome, and he made it really tough for me to get around him,” said Beaubier. “After getting past him, I made a couple of mistakes, and he was able to re-take the lead. It took all I had to catch back up to him, and I was running out of laps to pass him. I was fortunate to get a good drive on that last lap and get the win.”

Cardenas crossed the line over 15 seconds behind Hayes, running a lonely second-half of the race as fourth-place finisher and teammate, Roger Hayden, was an additional 11 seconds back. ADR Motorsports’ David Anthony took fifth followed by Cardenas’ teammate, Chris Clark. KTM/HMC’s Chris Fillmore finished in seventh trailed by M4 Motorcycle Racing’s Chris Ulrich in eighth.

Beaubier leads in points going into the final day of racing at Road America, followed by Hayden in second and Hayes in third.
