Somewhere this morning Taddy Blazusiak is still scratching his Red Bull helmet wondering how the Watsonville Buzz Saw – better known as Cody Webb – cut through the field and dominated Round 1 of the GEICO AMA EnduroCross held this past Friday in Las Vegas.

For those of us who know Webb, there was no question that he was ready to race and ready to win and now the sold out crowd inside the Orleans Arena is just as convinced as Webb powered his Factory Beta motorcycle through the pack and past current EnduroCross champion Blazusiak to take the lead on the first lap and never looked back until he took the checkered flag and the overall win.

“My anticipation level was pretty high coming into the first round and I knew it was going to be a showdown. Everyone has been working hard in the offseason and I knew I was ready coming into the race. After quickly getting into the lead the first lap, I stretched it out and rode a comfortable solo race to the finish. It was huge to get the first win of the season and I’m looking forward to doing more homework before the next round.”

Kacy Martinez was also on her game as she took on a loaded field of women racers battling boulders, logs and other huge obstacles to make the pass on the last lap for first place. “This is my first EnduroCross main event win after trying for so many years,” Martinez said. “I have been racing the GNCC’s and the first two were mud races so that really helped me in the slick portions of the track.”

Honorable mention goes out to FMF/RPM/KTM riders Bobby Prochnau who won his LCQ and finished 4th in the main. Gary Sutherlin took 7th and Bryan Roper was 9th.

FMF/RPM/KTM riders Rachel Gutish finished 4th and Chantelle Bykerk finished 6th in the Women’s Class.
