Johnson, after winning his heat race, easily earned his main event victory by piloting his Hot Rod Harley-Davidson Honda to a 6.21-second lead.
“After having a challenging start to the season, I was hungry for a win. This was my first time riding Knoxville so I wasn’t sure what to expect. In qualifying, I went out and found that my bike was dialed in and was able to find the fast line around the track. After winning my heat race, I knew I needed to go out and do the same thing in the main event. My start in the main wasn’t great so I knew I had my work cut out for me. I put my head down and made my way to the front. I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate Father’s Day than taking my dad on a victory lap. I would like to thank my sponsors, family, friends and fans for all the support. Now I need to stay focused and be consistent the rest of the season.”
Wells’ race weekend started out great by grabbing a 2nd in his heat race and transfering straight to the main, but issues with his bike derailed his overall chances for a win. “I thought this was going to be my race but my bike started blowing oil in the main and was dropping power – but that’s racing, we’ll come back ready to win next weekend.
“I’m just happy to keep moving forward and now have the points lead”
