Byron's sure to be hunched over a laptop after the checkers are flown, caught in his own little version of heaven. Whether on dirt, street or a combination of both, MotoUSA's newest addition knows the only thing better than actually riding is telling the story of how things went down.’s Jake Lewis scored his second-consecutive AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike race win in the first DSB contest at Mid-Ohio. RoadRace Factory’s Jake Gagne finished in second followed by Riders Discount Racing Triumph’s Danny Eslick in third.

The event was shortened to 14 laps to help accommodate the full schedule of races on deck for the day, and off the start it was Yamaha Extended Services’ JD Beach at the head of the pack. Lewis, Eslick, Gagne and Millennium Technologies’ Kyle Wyman rounded out the top-five, but positions started to shuffle immediately. Gagne got ahead of Eslick for second while Beach’s teammate, Garrett Gerloff dispatched Wyman for fifth followed soon after by Yamalube Westby Racing’s Dane Westby driving up to sixth.

On Lap 3 Lewis put the move on Beach for the lead and the Y.E.S. rider answered back soon after. Lewis took command of the front on Lap 4, however, leaving Beach to battle with Gagne for second. Gagne made his move into the runner-up spot soon after and set his sights on Lewis, passing for the lead on lap 5. The back-and-forth battle raged further back as well, with Westby and Eslick swapping position in the battle for third and Beach and Gerloff staying tight in fifth and sixth.

Gagne maintained his position out front for a number of laps but Lewis kept right on his rear tire. Lewis attempted to gain the front a few times during the latter stages of the race, but Gagne led the way entering the final lap. Lewis lined him up mid-way through the lap and was able to make it stick after running side-by-side with Gagne through a number of turns.

Eslick prevailed in the battle for third as Westby started to drop pace during the final laps, falling to fifth behind Gerloff by the checkers. Beach crossed the line in sixth followed by Castrol Triumph’s Jason DiSalvo in seventh.

The points battle has tightened up, with Gagne and Lewis mathematically tied for the top-spot in the series. Eslick sits third, still within reach of the series lead 13 points adrift of Gagne and Lewis, with Beach in fourth and Westby in fifth.
