Shayna Texter and the #25A Latus Motors/Castrol/ Triumph team are hot off their first AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship semi-final win at Lima, Ohio’s half-mile short track and energized for this weekend’s round at Maryland’s Hagerstown Speedway.

Located just 90 minutes northwest of Washington, DC, Hagerstown’s half-mile dirt oval is one of the smoothest and fastest half-mile tracks on the AMA Pro Flat Track circuit and a fitting place to celebrate Independence Day weekend. It’s also the closest AMA Pro Flat Track event to Texter’s hometown of Willow Street, Penn.

“Hagerstown Speedway has always been one of my favorite tracks,” said Texter. “It’s a very technical track and requires a lot of focus. You don’t slide the bike around the turns as much two-wheel it, riding that very fine line between leaning and sliding.”

While the 900-foot-long straightaways provide the racers with plenty of opportunities to draft around their fellow competitors going into the banked turns, the smooth clay surface is the great equalizer. The fastest bike doesn’t always win, but rather the rider that is the smoothest and races with the most finesse.

“I won at Hagerstown in Pro Singles a few years ago and it’s still one of my favorite tracks,” said Mikey Martin with the #91 Bonneville Performance/Castrol/Triumph team. “For as fun as it is to ride a high horsepower bike, you really have to finesse the throttle here or you’ll just spin the tire while your competitors jet past you.”

Gates open this Saturday, July 5, at 1:30 p.m. The first practice session begins at 4:30 p.m. and Opening Ceremonies begin at 8:00 p.m. For more information, check out the Hagerstown Half-Mile schedule at AMAProRacing.com.
