Byron's sure to be hunched over a laptop after the checkers are flown, caught in his own little version of heaven. Whether on dirt, street or a combination of both, MotoUSA's newest addition knows the only thing better than actually riding is telling the story of how things went down.’s Jake Lewis notched the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike win at Laguna Seca. Yamaha Extended Service’s JD Beach finished in second followed by Riders Discount Racing Triumph’s Danny Eslick in third.

Lewis took the early lead on the opening lap, followed by RoadRace Factory’s Jake Gagne, Beach and Eslick. The four riders remained close throughout the race, but Lewis maintained the upper hand throughout on the way to his first race win of the season.

I”t’s just a huge weight off my shoulders,” said Lewis. “It’s been an up-and-down year. Last year, I was close to winning and this year I’ve been close to winning, so it’s just a huge weight off my shoulders to get the first win. Qualifying fifth – I was a little bit disappointed with that, but I knew it was going to be a heck of a race. I was sitting on the grid thinking, ‘I’m going to win this race,’ because last year I was so close to winning. I got off to a good start, went into the lead in Turn 2 and never looked back. That’s been my weakness throughout my career – looking back – so I just put my head down and stayed focused and clicked off lap after lap and got into a good rhythm and brought home the win.”

Beach, Gagne and Eslick swapped positions early on, with Beach moving up to the number two spot on Lap 3 and holding there to the checkers. Eslick and Gagne went back and forth for much of the remainder of the contest, with the Triumph rider gaining a tenth-of-a-second advantage over Gagne at the line for a spot on the podium.

Gagne took fourth followed by Yamalube Westby Racing’s Dane Westby in fifth. Westby faced pressure from sixth-place finisher and teammate to Beach, Garrett Gerloff and Castrol Triumph’s Jason DiSalvo, who took seventh. GN Gonzales Racing’s Blake Young claimed eighth-place while GEICO Motorcycle’s Jake Zemke and Team H35’s Benny Solis finished in ninth and 10th, respectively.

Gagne remains the overall points leader but has Lewis sitting in second just five points behind. Eslick is third, nine adrift of the leader, with Beach in fourth and Westby in fifth.
