Mackenzie Tricker continues to dominate the 2014 Women’s Motocross Championship (WMX) by taking an impressive overall victory at this weekend’s AMA sanctioned Monster Energy Mammoth Mountain Motocross at Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort in Mammoth Lakes, California.

Tricker was strong from the get-go and grabbed the holeshot in each moto, as the Australian motocross star and Yamaha factory rider pulled away to top the Women’s class podium with a perfect 1-1 score.

Team Green Kawasaki’s Marissa Markelon finished second with a consistent 2-2 total, while KTM’s Britney Gallegos rounded out the podium with a 4-4 tally.

The Mammoth Mountain venue is a high altitude event, so not only were the racers battling the track and each other, but they also had to deal with the energy-sapping thin air.

“The altitude was a little bit of a factor in the second moto,” said Tricker. “I found it hard to breathe and my mouth was dry, but I have a good fitness program so it was more of a nuisance than a hindrance.”

Tricker was able to break away from the pack in the first moto and ride away with a relatively easy victory, although in the second moto Markelon was a little closer than Tricker would have liked.

“In the first moto, I was able to get out to a good lead and just ride my own race and just turn in consistent laps,” said Tricker. “The track got a little rougher in the second moto, and maybe I was a little too cautious because I didn’t want to throw it away, but a couple of the girls were a little closer than I wanted but that just gives me incentive to work harder.”

After four rounds, Tricker maintains a solid lead in the series standings with 197 points, compared to 148 for Markelon. Amber Felicio, who was fifth overall at Mammoth, sits third overall with 87 points.

The WMX resumes action on August 31 for the Baja Brawl in Millington, Michigan. For more information about the 2014 Women’s Motocross Series, visit the official website at or follow Race WMX on and at Twitter @RaceWMX.
