After frantic last minute preparations in the UK and some excellent off road training by Simon Pavey the 2014 Road of Bones kicked off from the legendary Ace Café in London under rare blue UK skies, an uneventful ride saw us all just make the Channel Tunnel train that deposited us on the European continent in just 35 minutes. Our first night was spent at the spectacular Belgium city of Brugge and our unique houseboat accommodation located on one of the many canals that surround this stunning city.

We moved across Europe at a quick pace but still took time to ride along the mighty Rhine and visit the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstien in the incredibly scenic Bavarian region of Germany.

We took a gamble, weather wise, on choosing to ride one of Europe’s finest high altitude passes, the Grossglockner in Austria, so early in the season, however what followed was a day of some of the most superb riding we have ever experienced, in fact some clients claimed it was the best riding day of their life!! A stunning blue sky greeted us as we awoke from our chalet that was surrounded by up to 5 feet snow in places. Incredible riding was assured as we visited the Franz Josef Glacier and crossed the Grossglockner pass before descending the stunning alpine valleys and mountains near Salzburg, our home for the night.

The group has just enjoyed a day off the bikes exploring Budapest, a beautiful city located on the Danube.

The group is so far a very tight knit gang and we have experienced only minor bike issues including an oil pressure issue with Brian (cousin, Joe, uncle) or what ever other name he goes by R 1200 GSA and a rough running issue with Tim’s F 800 but only when it rains!!!

Our thanks to Touratech for the excellent gear fitted to the ride leader bike in the UK, Motorworks UK for the supply of spare parts including some last minute parts needs for a couple of riders and to BMW Australia for the riding gear that Mick is wearing, the Rally suit does all it claims and then some, but more on that later.

Tomorrow we are off to Romania our 7th country in 7 days!!
