The Ducati Scrambler made its official debut at the Intermot Bike Show in Cologne, with Ducati having teased its reboot of the historic model throughout the summer. The Scrambler emerges from the pre-show marketing hype, at last, with a real-life spec sheet. The 2015 Scrambler is powered by Ducati’s remaining air-cooled Twin platform and bears the distinction of being the most affordable entry in the Italian marque’s lineup at $8495. It will be available in US dealers starting in January.


The Scrambler sources the 803cc (88mm bore x 66mm stroke) two-valve air-cooled Twin utilized by the Monster 796. However, engineers detuned the Desmodue Twin for the Scrambler, which claims 75 horsepower (8250 rpm) and 50 lb-ft torque (5750 rpm). Considering the new Monster 821 may displace the 796/696 models, the Scrambler will be the lone holdout to showcase Ducati’s traditional air-cooled L-Twin engine platform.

A distinctive header pipe configuration curls into a right-side 2-into-1 exhaust. A wet multi-plate clutch, six-speed gearbox and chain final drive complete the Scrambler powertrain.


Ducati’s signature steel trellis frame construction anchors the Scrambler chassis, with an aluminum swingarm. Kayaba delivers the suspension, with a non-adjustable 41mm inverted fork and pre-load adjustable rear shock. A single 300mm disc and radial-mount four-piston Brembo monobloc caliper provide the stopping power up front, with a 245mm disc single-piston caliper out back. ABS comes standard. The Scrambler runs semi-knobbie Pirelli MT 60 RS tires, with an 18-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear.

The Scrambler features a distinctive long seat, with a ride height listed at 31.1 inches (an accessory low seat option dropping this to 30.3 inches). Claimed dry weight is 375 pounds with wet weight 410 pounds.


Long-rumored, the Ducati Scrambler was first confirmed as a 2015 model and “officially” revealed during a private showing to Ducati employees in June. The Ducatisti also got a sneek peek of the Scrambler at World Ducati Week in July. Now that the official “official” reveal is past, enthusiasts get to admire the minimalist street tracker design.

Obvious contemporary design elements on the Scrambler include the LED lights and LCD instrumentation, while the steel teardrop tank pays homage to its original ancestor. The base model Icon Scrambler is offered in two colors, yellow ($8595) and red ($8494), with three additional versions available. Urban Enduro ($9995) comes in a “Wild Green” colorway and, as the name implies, features off-road elements like a front fender, fork protectors, wire-spoked wheels, ribbed seat and modest skid plate. The flat-track inspired Full Throttle Scrambler ($9995) sources a race-inspired seat and panels, shorter mudguard, lowered handlebar and Termignoni exhaust. The Classic ($9995) version sources a vintage seat and wire-spoked wheels.

Ducati chafes at the retro-styling designation for the new Scrambler, pitching the “post-heritage” moniker to describe its modern take, stating: ““Post-heritage” design gives a contemporary take on the iconic bike built by Ducati back in the 60s and 70s. This Ducati Scrambler, though, is no retro bike: it is, rather, intended to be just how the legendary Bologna-built motorcycle would be today if Ducati had never stopped building it.”

Post-heritage. It’s like how hipster beards are regular beards from the 1890s, but more contemporary… And speaking of hipster beards, several just started growing after laying eyes on this Duc. Those whiskers should be Romanov-grade and primed for three-quarter helmet display once Scramblers start arriving at dealer sales floors in January.
