Ducati’s Davide Giugliano earned pole position for the final round of the 2014 World Superbike season in Qatar with a 1’57.033 lap. Kawasaki’s Loris Baz finished second-fastest followed by his teammate and current championship points leader Tom Sykes in third.

Giugliano and Baz traded punches throughout the session, with Baz leading the way through the initial minutes. Giugliano got to the top of the timesheet mid-way through SP2 but Baz answered back with a lap more than half a second quicker than the previous best. Giugliano found an extra two-tenths during his final flying lap however, leaving him with his second pole position of the year.

Giugliano’s teammate, Chaz Davies, heads up the second row followed by Aprilia’s Sylvain Guintoli in fifth. Pata Honda’s Leon Haslam finished sixth-fastest, ahead of teammate Jonathan Rea in seventh. Guintoli’s teammate, Marco Melandri, starts from eighth on the grid while Suzuki’s Eugene Laverty trails in ninth. Red Devils Roma’s Toni Elias rounds out the top-10.
