The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall notice for certain 2014-2015 Harley-Davidson FLS Softail motorcycles owing to a potential defect with the lamp-outage detection indicator for the front turn signals. There are potentially 4688 units affected by the issue.

Harley-Davidson FLS Softail motorcycles produced from March 25, 2013 to October 2, 2014 are subject to the recall. Affected motorcycles fail to comply with requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard and United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Regulations. According to the notice, “the rider may not be aware that a front turn signal is not working. And without working turn signals, there is an increased risk of a crash.”

Harley-Davidson will notify owners and fix the body control module software free of charge on affected motorcycles. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. The recall ID number for Harley-Davidson is 0618.

Owners may also go to www.safercar.gov for more details or call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. The NHTSA campaign ID number is 14V725000.
