The Colorado Springs Gazette reports that Bobby Goodin passed away following a crash at the 2014 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. According to the report, this is the first time a motorcycle competitor has died in the event since 1982, bringing the total number of fatalities to five over the 92-year history of the historic race.

The Gazette goes on to state that Goodin had crossed the finish line aboard his 2014 Triumph Daytona 675R and then lost control while attempting to stop in the gravel parking lot. Goodin was ejected from his machine and when EMTs reached the scene, he was unconscious.

The Flower Mound, Texas resident was airlifted to Penrose Main Hospital and succumbed to his injuries seven hours after the incident. This was Goodin’s second time competing at Pike’s Peak.
