Villopoto and Weimer Switch to 2012 KX450F

Thursday, August 11, 2011
With a thinner chassis riders seemed to be able to move around more on the bike.
Villopoto and Weimer will ride the new 2012 Kawasaki KX450F starting at Unadilla.
The stars of Monster Energy Kawasaki motocross racing, Ryan Villopoto and Jake Weimer, are making a mid-season switch from their 2011 race bikes to the brand new 2012 Kawasaki KX450F. It’s not unheard of for riders to do this when new models come out, but many times they will stick with their tried and true race bikes through the end of the season. So much testing goes into developing a bike to each rider’s particular style and needs on the racetrack that it is difficult to pass that over in favor of an updated base model. In this instance, Monster Kawasaki has been using the three-week break for testing purposes and has decided that the new ’12 with Launch Control Mode is a better option, starting this weekend at Unadilla.

"We could tell right away that the guys were comfortable on the bike and after successful testing over the break, we decided to go ahead and race it," said Motocross Team Manager Mike Fisher. "Having the option to go to the 2012 KX450F gives us an advantage over our competition to utilize the latest technology that has been provided to us by Kawasaki."
