V Star 1100 Silverado
MSRP $9,399
The venerable V-Star 1100 series is one of the bargains in the 1000cc-plus cruiser offerings. Using an engine that is not much changed from the old Virago 1100, the V-Star line consists of three models. Just $7899 will put you in the saddle of the Custom model, with its minimalist front fender and bobbed rear fender setting it apart from the valanced-fendered Classic versions. New for 2003 are optional cast aluminum wheels that bump up the spoked-wheel-equipped $8199 price by 300 bucks.

My V Star 1100 Classic is a great bike. Although, as I have read from others I also think it would be better to have one more gear. I think it would make cruising at higher speeds a little more enjoyable, especially if you have loud pipes, as mine does. Other than that I can't find any faults. They ride and handle great. They also have plenty of get up and go.

The V-Star is a fantastic bike. For something over 600lbs it handles and carries itself extremely well. All the controls are easy to operate and are laid out in a logical manner. I have three complaints, two of which are fairly easy to fix. The internal oil filter, the seat and the 5 speed transmission. The first two are quick fixes with after-market products, which makes life much easier. The transmission makes the bike feel like it needs another gear. When up on highway speeds, the engine revs higher than it should. The simplest fix I've found is re-jetting the carbs. It's a great bike to ride that looks fantastic. It's no wonder that Yamaha really hasn't touched it since it was introduced in the late 90's.
