Repsol Honda's Andrea Dovizioso had the eighth fastest time of the day at the Mugello circuit and ran just ahead of Hector Barbera.

Casey Stoner: "I had a crash at the start, which obviously didn’t help. Basically when I went to grab the brakes at the “Bucine” corner there was nothing there! I tried to tip the bike into the corner but she was skipping wide so I just had to run her into the gravel. Stones got everywhere and that kind of stuffed that bike up for the rest of the session."

The San Carlo Honda Gresini team of Marco Simoncelli and Marco Melandri took the 12th and 13th fastest times at the Mugello circuit.

Nicky Hayden: “Today wasn’t as smooth out of the gate as we would have liked. The bike didn’t feel too bad but we were struggling in some of the downhill corners to get it to hold the line and change direction without using the brake to get the weight onto the front. We certainly need to take a good look at things together tonight and see where we can make it better because nothing came easy out there.

Italian fans were out in full force and cheering for Valentino Rossi at Round 4 of the Championship series.

Rossi is still reporting minor pain in his shoulder but says it has become more manageable compared to racing at Le Mans.

Nicky Hayden reported that his team will have to make improvements all over the bike in order to be successful at Mugello.

Valentino has a strong record at Mugello, winning seven consecutive races their between 2002 and 2008. His speed and experience will make him a tough competitor for Lorenzo and others to beat.

Ben Spies was able to secure seventh-place during qualifying at Mugello on Saturday.

Despite earning third-place in qualifying, Ducati's Casey Stoner has voiced that he is not confident headed into the Italian GP.

Pramac Racing's Mika Kallio suffered a crash and a DNF at Mugello during Round 4 of the MotoGP series.

Mika Kallio: "I started very well. I immediately gained three positions in the first few laps and I was very close to the group that was fighting for eighth place. Unfortunately, in Turn 10 I closed my steering too much and I fell off the bike. I wanted to give my best on this track because it is the Pramac Racing Team's home circuit. I will work hard to prove my value in the coming races."
