I wanted a cruiser. I shopped about first looking at an 05',1300 VTXc with pipes, mint overall, 4500 total miles. I rode it, 30 minutes or so. Frankly it seemed lame and noisy. The racket was way out of line with the preformance. To much noise not enough go fast feature. So I went back and ended up riding an 07', 1800 VTXr.
This bike had been set up by the dealer as a tour model by adding Hondaline shield, bags, backrest and a trick Mustang seat. I rode this for about 30 minutes. Frankly, I was sold in 2. Torque is the 1800's middle name. It is fun as heck to ride which is what cruisers are all about. It is very quiet, the twist grip exercise is converted into power, not noise.
This is a heavy bike for sure and proven not popular because of this. I ride a Gold Wing as a first bike so the bulk of the 1800 is not so formidible to me. I do admit when I make a 180 turn on divided hiway it is a very uncool "walkaround". But the hiway ride makes up for this. I really think this is a tour bike masquarading as a cruiser. It rides well at 80-85 with FEW vibrations, quiet grips and floorboards. It is a joy to ride.

I figured 300 miles overall mileage at 42 mpg. This was a serious attempt on my part to get high milage by staying out of the throtle and under the speed limit. Later I got 38mpg riding 70 - 80mph. I have a 280 mile highway ride upcoming and I expect a 36 - 38mpg average, not to bad for such a large motor / bike.
