This bike is a tank. It is like the M-3 Scout tank of the 60's comic. It can take on tigers! This past August I rode it for over 5,000 miles in 9 days while completing the last 14 states of my Iron Butt Association's 25-50-365 Tour. Talk about a stand to machine! I have ridden 800 mile plus days on this puppy. It did not strand me even though the valve adjustment was done almost at twice the recommended mileage! Keep the fluids in line and you'll have a great time!
I have upgraded the chain-sprocket system and added a touring windshield from Zero Gravity. I have also added an AiHawk cushion,Throttle Rocker and gel grips. It sports Cortech's Tri Bags and a larger than life tank bag.
I chose this bike because of the price-value ratio. I have cruisers (Honda Shadows 750 and 1100) and a Burgman 400 too.
It is a lot of fun to ride and it usually gives me 275 mpg range on a tank of gas (5.3). I have yet to run it dry. It thumps along at more than legal limits whem thumbe properly.
It is a pity that it does not get any respect- even from the manufacturer-or after market support(they are all out there!) It is well made, inexpensive to operate and maintain, and easy on the eyes.
Mine consumes a little bit of oil when it is way hot! But I flog it, I shake it.

I purchased my 2007 GS500F used a few months ago and have adapted to it very quickly. It feels and handles like a higher end sport bike. The full fairing gives it a very sporty look but the ride height and handlebar position allow for a much more comfortable ride. It takes corners like the best of them and the little 487cc engine is enough to give a feel of speed and power. There are only a few drawbacks to this bikes design, but overall you get more than your money's worth out of this little bike. It is perfect for the beginner and occasional commuter.
