Video Tribute to Dane Westby
On March 23, 2015 Dane Westby lost his life after a streetbike accident in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Westby had recently completed MotoAmerica/Dunlop tire testing at Circuit of the Americas, where he placed fastest among Superstock 1000 riders. He finished second-place in the 2012 AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Championship and was the first three-time winner in the SportBike class in 2014. He had numerous WERA racing championships to his credit prior to his career in AMA Pro Racing as well.

Dane Westby at Circuit of the Americas Video
On March 20, 2015, Dane Westby posted the fastest Superstock 1000 time during the second day of MotoAmerica/Dunlop tire testing at Circuit of the Americas. Three days later Westby lost his life in a streetbike crash in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Yamalube/Westby Racing has released the video below with footage of Westby during the test, paying tribute to the life that was lost too soon.

Kevin Schwantz was on hand during the 2014 Donington Park Classic Motorcycle Festival, hopping back on his Suzuki RGV to turn some laps before regaling the crowds with stories of his racing past during the evening dinner. Participants were kept from getting to the business of riding during one of the days of the event thanks to rain, which gave our man Frank Melling the opportunity of tracking Schwantz down for an impromptu conversation.

Ryan Suchanek is a stunt rider who faced a major set-back in 2007. While riding his bike home from work Suchanek was hit by a car; when he woke six weeks later he found his left leg had been amputated from the knee down. Six months after that he was back on a bike doing demos in China.

The Race to 400 mph video series continues as Sam Wheeler gets his redesigned E-Z-Hook Streamliner up on the dyno. As documented in previous installments of the Race to 400, Wheeler’s E-Z-Hook has received significant drivetrain upgrades with a new turbo-charged Hayabusa Inline Four, auxiliary transmission and belt drive. Now that Wheeler has the streamliner drivetrain in working condition, he puts it through the paces on the dyno.

My good friend and Cycle News Associate Editor, Andrea “A-Dub II” Wilson just showed me a video of AMA flat tracker turned road racer, JD Beach and his miraculous save from this past weekend’s AMA race in New Jersey. In the video it appears that Beach has everything under control until the rear end of his Yamaha R6 goes completely sideways—and tries to throw him off in a highside-style crash.
