For a regular low cost motorcycle that has the hp to ride with the big dogs. Can't beat the price of the bike or for an all around-er just love it.Starts and runs beautiful transmission is buttery smooth with only the slightest movement of my foot.In sixth gear at 2000 rpm it will pull away with out bogging down if not fast pull away in the said gear.Snap the throttle open in 1st gear and the thing will wheelie right now.rev it up to 10,000 rpm and pop the clutch in 1st gear and the thing will smoke the tires and bounce off the red line in a heart beat.Best street bike I've ever owned.WR

Like one of the previous reviewers, this is my first bike. When My son told me he wanted to take a trip to Montana a couple of years ago- I snapped at the chance to go with. I started reading everything I could get my hands on. Took the ABATE course, bought my safety gear and started looking around. This bike is very friendly for the beginner, but has plenty of punch after you get past 6000 rpm's. Very maneuverable in the sweepers and twisties, but also good ergonomics for long distance travel. The stock windsdcreen was too small to do much good but Calsci had a good one I changed to. I averaged about 44-50 on my western trip, and the bike was very capable and no mechanicla problems. It was 4,000 less than the BMW F800ST I was looking at to boot. Great bike with lots left for the intermediate rider and an outstanding value. Loads of fun to ride and can't wait to ride at any time. Dose great in any weather- rain heat cold! Switched to Michelin Pilot Road tires and they are fantastic on this bike.

Not sure how qualified I am to make much of an assessment since this is my 1st Motorcycle. What I can say that as a beginner it appears to me to be a great starting point. It wont bite you unless you are just plain stupid. It is comfortable and easily has handled an all day ride, without complaint. Mileage has been really good for me almost averaging 49mpg. With just under 4,000 miles in 3 months, I am very pleased with all aspects. If there was one issue maybe its that it doesn't have much under seat storage, one i assume because it is a semi sport bike and two because the under seat exhaust. But that's what backpacks and tank bags are for. Performance wise I can't help out much because I have no comparison. For me at this point though it is a great starting point.

After owning a bigger machine,i was hesitant about the fz-6 and wow was i wrong. Yamaha did this one right, the power handling and brakes are great and this bike is worth every penny. The transmission and clutch take a little time getting used to but its no big deal and it has more horse power than my older bigger bike.I love it and cant see how anyone cant.
