After losing a tight battle with Rossi on the final lap, American Nicky Hayden finished fourth at the Australian GP.

Andrea Iannone placed third in Australia and is trailing Julian Simon by only two points in the championship.

Jorge Lorenzo: “I tried my best, riding as hard as I could at the start and occasionally it seemed like I was closing a little bit, but then on the next lap Casey would extend his lead again by a few tenths. I kept trying but I didn't have much hope and half way through I decided it was better not to take risks."

Marco Melandri of San Carlo Honda placed 10th in qualifying and was 2.260 seconds adrift of Stoner.

Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa will not be racing at Phillip Island due to his injuries and a lack of endurance.

Dani Pedrosa: "“Phillip Island is a very fast circuit, I have to grip the handlebars very tightly, and this makes me very tired and gives me a lot of pain. To ride around three seconds off the pace in the race tomorrow and maybe collect just a few points wouldn’t make much sense. But I think it has been worth it to at least try to ride here because we really didn’t know how I would be on the bike until we tried.”

Scott Redding (#45) earned his second podium of the season in second-place - his best finish so far in Moto 2.

Marco Simoncelli: "The wind was a bit of a problem today, especially when I was on my fast lap. I was behind Stoner at that point and I honestly cannot understand how he manages to go so fast!"

Ben Spies (#11) finished fifth and was three seconds ahead of Marco Simoncelli (#58) at Phillip Island.

After winning in Australia ahead of Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi, Stoner is now undefeated at Phillip Island for the past four years.

Casey Stoner led a start to finish victory in Australia to take his third win of the 2010 season.
