The 2008 Honda CBR1000RR appears to be a return to the type of philosophy that made the original CBR900RR so popular: Take the performance envelope and make it big, make it encompass more than just one aspect of the riding experience. For '08 this RR picked-up where the '07 left off. It's 6-lbs lighter, 6-hp stronger with a longer wheelbase and more aggressive steering geometry. While the other bikes got bigger and heavier, the CBR is smaller and lighter. The styling is questionable but looks more retro than funky, evoking the stubby lines of the RC-51 and 900RR instead of pointy and angular like some of the other bikes in this test.

Not one of Honda's better models. Faulty fuel tank weld caused fuel leak. Mine also burned a fair amount of oil, something like 1/2 quart every 1100 mile. Always had to watch oil level. American Honda was sympathatic and were moving in the direction of helping me out, but the leaky fuel tank was the last straw.

Power is awesome and fast. Bike suspension not as smooth or sure footed as ZX10 Kawasaki. My CBR1000RR burned a fair amount of oil and there have been many complaints about this problem. Warranty was useless as Honda Dealer and American Honda did not see it as a problem. 2007 CBR1000RR also had a faulty weld recall on fuel tank. Mine was leaking from the weld joint and getting it warrantied was a hassle albiet my bike was out of warranty, it should never have been my fault this tank was leaking.
