I bought my R1200R in August 2007. It has been an excellent bike so far and I have put lots of miles on it. As the previous reviewer states, the maintenance charges are excessive at the dealership. I change my own oil and perform minor maintenance items myself (I refuse to pay BMW $120 for an oil change!).
Mine is a fully-loaded model. Love the electronics, such as the tire pressure monitoring and electronic suspension adjustment. I resented paying for them at the time, but would now say that they are totally worth it and would never go without them in the future.
My only complaint is with the clunky transmission, as I have had smoother ones before. The great thing with this bike is that you can use it just in the city or do touring on it - it is the bike to get if you want one bike that does everything very well.

over priced, a bit under powered. handles great. maintenance costs are thru the roof-- par for bmw's. most of the famed electronics are merely -- gimmicks. would i buy another-- well lets put it this way -- i bought 2 bmw's the day i bought my r1200r -- i bought my first one an my last one..............
