McGuinness Joey Dunlop Tribute TT Video

John McGuinness may not have won the opening Superbike race at this year’s Isle of Man TT, but the 19-time TT winner did earn his King of the Mountain status with the fastest-ever lap on the Mountain course at 131.671 mph. McGuinness did so campaigning his CBR1000RR in special Joey Dunlop tribute livery. A new video from the Honda TT Legends squad, embedded below, explains the livery.
The livery celebrates Dunlop – the winningest TT rider and road course legend – and his first-ever victory for Honda – back in 1983. Dunlop, who died racing the roads in 2001, is notable as Honda’s longest-tenured factory rider, and the King of the Roads claimed 24 of his 26 TT wins aboard a Honda.
McGuinness has also claimed the lion’s share of his TT wins via Honda machinery, and is in fact Dunlop’s former teammate. Said the English rider on running the tribute livery: “Well, it is an honor. It’s nice to be asked. Joey was the most famous road racer of all time, still is. The most TT wins, it’s not forgotten about. Its 30 years ago since he won on the Honda and it’s nice to be part of it.
