V Star 1100 Custom
MSRP $9,190
The long, low Custom has been stipped down to the bare essentials. It sports a 1063cc air-cooled B-Twin that dates back to the mid-Eighties when it powered Yamaha's Virago 1100. Since then the SOHC V-twin has seen mechanical and cosmetic changes, but keeps the low-rpm and strong midrange torque that continues to make this bike a favorite.

Powerful, good looking, reliable and easy handling. That last part I should know very well, because I am a totally new rider and was able to handle the bike in a few short hours with minimal instructions. I selected the Custom model because I wanted to add components I choose. So I started with the bare bones, basic, bike and I will move up as time goes by.

I bought the bike a year ago. I'm an every day rider, come hell or high water. The bike handled very well and has more than enough power to get around, even on the highway. Early on I noticed some sticking in the shifting and after about 8,000 miles (3 months of riding) the transmission completely went out on me. It a real shame, because up till that point I had no issues and myself and my wife loved the bike. It's been in the shop for a few months because many of the parts were just not readily available... bla bla bla... Lessoned learned... I'm going to pretend that this was a special case and to not let it put a bad taste in my mouth for the v-star... but, thinking back... I don't think I'd by another bike with a shaft drive (over a belt or a chain). It is EXTREMELY expensive to fix. Should be getting it back this week... will probably trade it in within the next few weeks. For a point of reference, I am 6'1", 230 lbs and was using this bike as my daily commuter.
