2009 Yamaha
V Star 950
MSRP $7,890
A big factor in this appealing equation is the price. With it retailing at only a tad over $1200 more than the little V-Star 650 Classic, and feeling far more like a full-sized cruiser, we would venture to guess the days of the 650 are numbered. Bottom line is the V-Star 950 does everything really well; handles light, feels big, looks stylish. Plain and simple, behind the controls of the Star 950 is a very, very nice place to be.

I bought a 2009 V-Star 950 Tourer in Oct of 2010 for $8000 even. It's a very beautiful bike and a LOT of fun to ride. Unfortunately, there are some HUGE defects. First, they recalled the bike because of a faulty seal in the fuel injectors which could possibly ignite the bike. Then, on February 26 of 2012, my rear wheel seized and caused about $2700 worth of damage to the adjacent parts. Since it is 6 months out of warranty, Yamaha refuses to assume responsibility for this defect. They had to CUT OFF THE REAR WHEEL to begin repairs. I am currently preparing to take them to court. Also, I am NOT the only one that this has happened to. I have stumbled across others in my gathering of evidence...

the seat and suspension are a total joke .rides like a hard tail , rear shock is junk!!!! the seat bottoms out after 5 mins. sitting on it . and yamaha said to me all our cruisers ride that way it's just the way it is .and will not do a thing about this bikes problems! to fix the shock and the seat i'll have to spend another $1,100 for new rear shock and a new seat....

This is my first bike. I think it is a great bike for a female. I love to ride it and look forward to road trips with my husband and riding friends. My husband and son have been great support for me. I LOVE MY BIKE!!!! I am a 5ft. 3in. female and had to lower it but it's very nice.

I really do like this bike alot ! And my dealer tricked it all out for me so that's its quite a show piece, actually. BUT I did have a little trouble getting used to it. Moving from the 250 to the 650 was easier than moving from the 650 to the 950.
The handlebars are just a tad wider and that made it hard to get used to in right hand turns especially. The floorboards are a tad wider so I got my boot tied up on it a couple times but I learned to adapt pretty quickly.
I wish it would accelerate just a little faster in 1st and 2nd but once you hit 3rd, you're running with the Big Boys just fine.
I do think I'll keep this bike for a long time, tho. Very comfortable for long rides and we are heading to Niagara Falls this year. I'm so excited to be riding my 950.
