2010 Kymco
Xciting 500Ri
MSRP $6,299
The new Xciting 500Ri delivers KYMCO quality and economy in an agressive sport styling. Its 500cc, electronic fuel injected, DOHC liquid-cooled engine delivers at highway speeds with plenty of passing power. KYMCO's popular CVT transmission provides stepless acceleration from a standing start all the way up to cruising speed. The 15" front and 14" rear tires, adjustable hydraulic rear shocks and telescopic front forks smooth out the bumps. A well-padded driver's seat (30.25" seat height) with adjustable backrest, four- position adjustable brake levers, and the aerodynamic, sport style windscreen all add up to an incredibly comfortable and safe ride.

Since my previous Scoot was a Honda Elite 80cc bike back in high school, I guess I'll come at this as a new rider. I didn't really like my dealer but they really wanted to sell a Kymco. They told me that a 250 would have done me fine, but as I discovered it wouldn't have. Running a Scoot at the high end will kill them if you do it for extended periods of time. I have 8500 Miles on mine so far over 7 months. I've hit the top speed of the bike (92mph) while riding on the highway to stay safe. The Scoot for some reason uses oil. I can't find where it's going, but between oil changes it uses about 1.5 quarts of oil. Kymco shipped the bike with a Maxxis tires, which isn't bad at all, except that they recommend running the tire out of Maxxis tire inflation specs. I am really close to needing a new back tire already, however I heard its about right. The trunk latching system seems to be sticky so it doesn't pop right open anymore. However I am really impressed with the rest of the bike. The bike has got extra power to get out of the way. It has good low end toque for low speed maneuvering. And the horn is damn loud, not that it will get cars to move out of the way, but the horn is located on the bike in the right place. Trunk space is pretty nice, the power outlet for charging a cell phone is also nice, however it could have been located in a little bit better place.
