Triumph Tiger Explorer vs BMW R1200GS

2012 Triumph Tiger Explorer Adventure Touring Motorcycle.
We got swamped this afternoon, but the testing continues. It's not always fun and games!
During the 2012 Triumph Tiger Explorer First Ride, the Brits made no bones about gunning for the BMW R1200GS. With limited options for new 2012 adventure touring motorcycles, we’ve paired up the biggest news this year with the winner of our epic 2011 Adventure Touring Shootout. Our base camp for this two-bike comparison test is outside of Cedar City, Utah. The southern portion of the state has unlimited riding from twisty roads to smooth gravel and rocky tracks. We’ve had a couple days of riding thus far and it’s been a range of climates as well. Today we got dumped on with heavy showers and even a bit of hail. Good thing I was sporting the Defender GTX gear from Rev'it!

Tomorrow it’s off for an extended trip to Lake Powell. We’ve mapped out some new-to-us roads and should be in for some amazing scenery as well. The Triumph is attempting to wrestle the Boxer-driven GS into submission with its muscular Inline-Triple. Tomorrow’s long highways will be a paved proving ground, but none of our testers are saying anything yet. This is going to be a great side-by-side look at some badass ADV bikes.

No offence to J.C but why is it that whenever I view a video of him doing comparison tests he struggles to remember the names of the bikes he is comparing and needs to pause before naming them in his intro's. Sorry J.C but if you are going to editorialize professionally, may we ask that you at least prepare. I don't know how this could be an accurate 2012 ADV comparison study with only two bikes. Either Motorcycle-USA has reduced their budget or there is a substantial knowledge gap in terms of researching the existence of other comparable ADV bikes out there. It seems you guys are getting bored of reporting on the same bikes, year after year (ie. BMW R1200GS). My recommendation is to perform a comprehensive evaluation on the NEW Triumph Explorer 1200 (not just the manufacture stats ho hum ...), in the dirt and on the tarmac and compare your findings to those already conducted for BMW, KTM etc... You don't need to re-evaluate and compare the R1200GS to the Explorer, that;s just insane.
