Casey Stoner: "in general the bike worked very well straight out of the box so I'm very grateful for this and cannot complain too much. Valentino Rossi: "It’s almost as if we didn’t have practice today. This morning we only had one complete outing, which went pretty well. Then we had problems with both of the bikes, and I was left with the time that I did on my fourth lap. Nicky Hayden: "We were pretty strong in our first run this morning. We didn’t improve much from there, but I used the same hard tire the whole session, and it worked well here on both sides. Marco Simoncelli grabbed the best lap during practice at Mugello as he seeks his first ever MotoGP win at his home circuit.

Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner will lead Ben Spies and Marco Simoncelli on the front row at Mugello. - 2011

Casey Stoner: "I'm really happy to get pole here especially on a used tire. The start of qualifying didn't look too good, there was some rain and it was difficult to know how much to push so we went with soft tires on front and rear to try and get a good lap time before the rain arrived." - Mugello Qualifying 2011

Dani Pedrosa: "I was pretty lucky because the session was only 30 minutes old when the rain arrived and this is good for my injury. I made a few nice laps at the beginning of the session and I'm impressed with my lap time, eighth place on the grid is very good given my physical condition. I know that in the race it will be hard but I will try my best." - Mugello Qualifying 2011

Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo earned his second victory of the season at Mugello after passing Stoner late in the race.

Honda's Andrea Dovizioso made the pass on Casey Stoner for second on the final lap.

Casey Stoner (#27) remains 19 points ahead of the competition after being outpaced by his rivals in Round 8.

Marc Marquez (#93) had a well-deserved victory at Mugello after outpacing two of his closest rivals in the series on the final lap.

Yamaha's Ben Spies won a fight with San Carlo Honda's Marco Simoncelli for fourth at Mugello. - 2011

Dani Pedrosa finally marked his GP return since the Simoncelli Le Mans incident and the subsequent broken collarbone.

The two front-running Repsols were Andrea Dovizioso and Casey Stoner, with the Italian able to sneak by his teammate for second.

Dovizioso and Stoner enjoy the Mugello champagne, alongside the defending champion Lorenzo.

Rossi's GP11.1 hasn't turned things around quite yet, but The Doctor was smiling during his photo op with Italian beauty Bianca Balti.

A poor start forced Rossi to work past several riders en route to his sixth-place result at Mugello.

Simoncelli and Spies battled over fourth, with the American eventually nicking the Italian on his home turf.

Spies stalked Simoncelli in the closing laps, the American's racecraft paying off with a final lap overtake for fourth.

Jorge Lorenzo celebrates his second win of the season and closing the gap in the points to Stoner.
