The L.A. Kings "Ice Bike" is a customized 2008 Star Raider that has new paint, pipes, wheels and chrome accessories to go along with the signatures of the NHL's 2008 L.A. Kings.
The
L.A. King's "Ice Bike," one of the first custom 2008 Star Raiders we've seen, will be raffled off to benefit the non-profit Kings Care Foundation. Featuring custom hockey-themed paint and signed by the 2008 L.A. Kings, proceeds from the sale of the "Ice Bike" will help provide educational and recreational opportunities for children throughout the Greater Los Angeles area. The motorcycle is being donated by Dr. Robert S. Bray, Jr., of the D.I.S.C. Spine and Sports Center. D.I.S.C. is the official Medical Center of the Los Angeles Kings and is the primary sponsor of the fundraiser.
The "Ice Bike" has a custom-painted tank, fenders and side panels done in a sharp purple and black with an overlay that sports the look of an ice sheet. Team players from the Kings, including Luc Robataille, Anze Kopitar, Ladislav Nagy, Michael Cammalleri and Scott Thornton have personalized the "Ice Bike" by autographing its fuel tank and side panels. The 4.1-gallon tank also has "Los Angeles Kings" stenciled across it to go along with the painting of a large Kings' crown. Hockey pucks streaking across the ice also add to the hockey theme of the custom paint. The motorcycle's artwork is being done by award-winning Jim Ogawa of Ogawa Designs in Sanger, Calif.
It's no wonder they choose the 2008 Star Raider to represent the L.A. Kings. The bike is a blend of explosive power with excellent agility, the same attributes of a world-class hockey player. The powerful 1854cc fuel-injected V-Twin of the Raider pumped out 80.4 hp at 4600 rpm and 102.8 lb-ft of torque at 2600 rpm on the Motorcycle USA dyno. The mill is housed in a new lightweight, double cradle cast-aluminum frame that is light, rigid and tuned for aggressive cornering and handling. The rider tucks in tightly behind the controls at 27.3 inches off the deck thanks to the short pushrod arrangement of the the V-Twin. Assisting the Raider's handling is a tall 120/70-21 Metzeler ME880 Marathon in front with a generously-sized 210/40-18 Metzeler out back. The motorcycle has custom Sinister Wheels cut out in the shape of the L.A. Kings crown with the crown's design etched into the the billet rims.
The build is being conducted by master technician David Reed out of
Yamaha 99 in Madera, Calif. Other upgrades to the "Ice Bike" include a custom seat by Rocky's in Clovis, Calif., a custom exhaust by Tejas Thump Cycles in Meadow, TX, and additional chrome accessories plated by Meclec in Clovis, Calif.
Tickets to the Tip-A-King event cost $85 for General Admission. All players on the 2008 L.A. Kings' Roster will be at the reception, including coaches and broadcasters. There will be an autograph-signing and photo session with the players in addition to the silent and live auctions of Kings' and NHL memorabilia. Wolfgang Puck will be providing a special menu for the the event.
