Don't miss the launch of Thundersprint 2013, complete with a replica 1917 Fokker Tri-Plane fly-over.
British fighter planes at RAF Valley, just four miles away from the Thundersprint at Rhosneigr in Anglesey, will be on full alert on April 21 as German fighter ace Baron Manfred von Richthofen, and his iconic 1917 Fokker Triplane, swoop across Caernarvon Bay to launch the 2013 Thundersprint.
The “Red Baron” – in the form of affable English pilot Paul Ford - is famous for being Germany’s most successful fighter pilot of the First World War and he will be flying a perfect replica of Richthofen’s bright red, three winged Fokker fighter plane.
In the hands of Paul, who spent 3,500 hours building the plane from scratch with the help of his wife Sarah and a group of friends, the Fokker will give spectators the best ever impression of being under attack in the First World War British trenches – without the need to be wet, cold, hungry and shot at from the air by a machine gun!
Paul Ford built the replica Fokker and will fill the role of "Red Baron" at Thundersprint.
Paul said: “The one motorcycle event which everyone in the aviation world knows is the Thundersprint. I do a lot of displays but until this year the Thundersprint has always clashed with other commitments. Now, I am looking forward to putting our Fokker through its paces in one of the best aircraft display areas in the world.”
Thundersprint organiser Frank Melling said: “We are honoured to have Paul and the iconic Fokker with us. Despite being nearly 100 years old, there is still no aircraft which turns faster than the Fokker and the skill and grace with which Paul displays the plane is breathtaking.
“He also has a fantastic sense of fun and really brings the Red Baron to life.”
“Baron von Richthofen” will show his fantastic Fokker right along the seaward edge of the Anglesey Race Circuit and admission to the display is free as part of spectators’ £5.00 entry ticket.
