Jim Redman Thundersprint
Six time world champion Jim Redman will don the leathers at the upcoming 2009 Thundersprint.
Six times World Champion Jim Redman leads a fantastic classic entry at next year's Thundersprint which will be held over the weekend of May 9/10 in Northwich, Cheshire, town centre.

Still the only man to win Six World Championships for Honda, Jim is one of the greatest racing motorcyclists of all time. Jim is a huge Thundersprint fan and looks on the Thundersprint as very much his "own" meeting.

Jim says: "I have ridden in every Thundersprint except the very first one and I think it would be illegal to organise a Thundersprint without me there!

"Although I have raced at many events in 50 years of competitive motorcycling there are none better organised than the Thundersprint. It's amazing how a town centre is transformed into a race circuit over night and I love the intensity of the atmosphere.

"The Thundersprint is the nearest thing to a classic Grand Prix that still exists in terms of the sheer excitement and scale of the event. There are many other classic bike events in the world - and I enjoy them all. But what makes the Thundersprint special is the atmosphere. It's electric. The crowds packed next to the track, the noise, the smells - the sheer intensity of the event is unique. I ride all over the world and there is literally nothing else like the Thundersprint anywhere.

"As usual, I will be in action on Clive Brooker's immaculate CR750 and this year I'm looking forward to winning the Masterclass!"

Thundersprint organizer, Frank Melling, was just as pleased to have the classic motorcycling superstar ride in the Thundersprint again. Frank said: "Jim should be a World Heritage Site. Not only is he one of the great, the very great, motorcycle racers of all time but he remains modest, kind and courteous. Nothing is ever too much trouble for fans and this is why he is so popular with the Thundersprint audience.

"Jim will be with us for the whole weekend both at the Thundersprint Bike Show on Saturday 9 May and racing in the following day's Thundersprint.

Race well, Jim. Wish you every success and wish someone would sponsor Alan Harris to join you on the grid. Come and show us how it's done at Killarney ASAP! From Wikipedia, with grateful thanks, about Jim: James Arthur Redman MBE (born August 11, 1931 in London, England) is a six-time World Champion motorcycle road racer. As a young man, he emigrated to Zimbabwe, then known as Rhodesia, where he began his racing career. He earned a factory ride with Honda for the 1960 season. He would go on to claim four consecutive 350cc World Championships from 1962 to 1965. In 1962 and 1963 he claimed double championships winning both the 250cc and 350cc World Championships. In 1964, he became the first rider to claim 3 Grand Prix victories in one day at the Dutch TT. Redman was also a six time Isle of Man TT winner, taking double wins in 1963, 1964 and 1965 in the Lightweight & Junior TT Races. He achieved a total of 45 Grand Prix victories.
