Cholmondley Pageant of Power Preview

Bikes and Cars Share the Stage at Cholmondley Pageant of Power

Although primarily a car event, Cholmondeley Pageant of Power (CPOP) does welcome bikes to its annual revival event set in the beautiful rolling countryside of south Cheshire.

Bikes are banned from the competitive element of CPOP because the narrow, bumpy and tree-lined circuit is considered unsuitable for full on sprint racing, so riders compete to finish each of their laps as close to their declared target time as they can: it’s harder than it sounds!

In truth, the competition is more of a distraction than an interest for spectators because most fans are at CPOP to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy the stunning setting and admire the bikes.

Star rider will be local man, and eight-time Isle of Man TT winner, Charlie Williams but this time out on a Ben Bostrom replica Ducati rather than his more familiar TZ Yamahas.

Watch out also for another local star in Frank Jones and his ex-works Triumph Bonneville, while Peter Kent is bringing a selection of immaculate Suzukis.

Cheering them on will be ex-World Champion James Toseland, who won’t be in action on the track but will be exercising his pinkies on the keyboard playing with his band “Toseland”.

James said: “I'd love to be able to ride but unfortunately my wrist won't be healed from my latest operation which I had three months ago but I am looking forward to a great atmosphere combining two of my favorite things – rock and motorbikes!”

The 2014 Cholmondeley Pageant of Power will be open to the public from June 13–15 at Cholmondeley Castle, Malpas, Cheshire. Gates open at 8 a.m. every day. Tickets are priced from £26. For more information about the Pageant or to book tickets, visit www.cpop.co.uk or call 01829 772432.
