to compete for bragging rights and a piece of the $7000 prize money and $500-plus in prizes. The media sponsor for the J&P Ultimate Builder Long Beach round was Keith “Bandit” Ball of Bikernet.com who awarded Seth Slagiel the “Editor’s Choice” award. His bike will also be featured in the online magazine in an upcoming issue. Michael Schacht of Crocker won the “Show Dog” award for is tireless promotion on the show floor and for his ability to engage the audience and to promote his business.
When Shaun Ruddy of Chop Deluxe wheeled Retro Racer into the 2012 SoCal Ultimate Builder, everyone new that digger-style custom was a contender. Shaun pulled it off, be it by the slimmest of margins against second place finisher and San Mateo champion, Pala Duro. Shaun’s winning bike features hand machined brass pieces throughout, a 127” Ultima EL Bruto V-Twin with Panhead front rocker boxes and a custom front end.

Wicked Beauty, a 2003 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy, has a winning streak going after taking 1st place in both the SoCal and NorCal editions of the J&P Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show. Classy, clean, and choloed out, this ride is spoked-down with wide beach-cruising bars and incredible engraving. For his build, Bruce Boldon bolstered the engine’s output with the addition of a big bore kit, Screamin’ Eagle cams and diamond cut heads. If something on the bike isn’t chromed, it’s powder coated. Its Ride Wright wheels are engraved and diamond cut while the frame is chromed and engraved as well. An outstanding build, Bruce is living large as the 2012 Modified Harley King of California.

Paul Ponkow's '64 Triumph TR-6 rolls back the clock to simpler days. We're diggin' the groovy pipes, man! Ponkow's Triumph won the Retro Mod title in LB.
We love what R.I.S. Designs did with this 2003 Honda RC51. So did the judges, that's why it earned top honors in the Modified Street class at the Long Beach Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show.
Purpose-built race bikes got traction at the Ultimate Builder LB with Paul Morris and his Street Pro bike taking the win by a wheel against Ray Wheeler and his turbocharged Bonneville racer. Morris’ bike sports a Gangster frame, full MSD ignition, carbon fiber body work and rear wheel. Its chassis is custom built with a stretched swingarm and slammed suspension.

Paul Ponkow of Bones Legacy must have a little Ed Roth in his bones because his bike, Satyricon, looks like it could came straight out of the Rat Fink camp of the ‘60s. The bike has a 53 degree rake, 8-inch stretch and a 30-inch over rigid front end. Special features include a hand-made oil tank, sissy bar, seat, exhaust, handlebars, foot controls and brake linkage. It’s a beautiful 1964 Triumph TR-6 with a 650cc mill that was balanced and blue printed with polished rods, coated valves and an SRM blow off valve.

R.I.S. Designs scrambled until early Saturday morning but brought in this tasty 2003 RC51 with paint by No Mercy Air. It features a Grip Ace digital control system, custom bodywork, a single sided swingarm, custom pipes and custom billet rims.
