Some serious sheet work by Kyle Shorey and the crew at Shadetree Fabrications helped 'Speedmetal' capture first place in the Freestyle class at the Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show in Chicago.
The 2013
J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show kicked off in Chicago, Illinois February 8, 2013, with builders coming in from as far as Dallas to compete for over $7750 in cash and prizes. A new sponsor was added to the mix with HelmetLok providing all placing entries with a way to secure their helmets.
Chicago has always given love to baggers and this edition was no exception with seven big-tire baggers competing in FreeStyle. These bikes were big and brash and had the “look” that you come to expect in these machines.
Enthusiasts were able to get their quota of eye candy as Chicago delivered the most diverse selection of sleds with baggers, trikes, sidecars, café racers, customs, pro street bikes and restored vintage iron all gracing the red carpet.
Freestyle
Kyle Shorey of Shadetree Fabrications took the win in the FreeStyle class at the Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show in Chicago with 'Speedmetal.' The bike began life as a customer’s Saxon Crown chopper. The wheels, engine, brakes and tranny were salvaged from the donor bike. A key feature of the bike is the prototype springer, which will be available to the public shortly. This is the third appearance and third win for Shorey who has pocketed a total of $7500 in award money.

Modified Harley
The Modified Harley class was won by Don Robb of AR Baggers with his 2002
Harley-Davidson Road Glide that features a Big Bore kit, full air ride, PM wheels, an 8-speaker system, touch screen and (2) 1200 watt amps.
This bagger goes boooom!! Don Robb's 2002 Harley Road Glide has an 8-speaker sound system powered by two 1200 watt amps.
Take a 2007 Suzuk GSX-R1000, stretch the swingarm 10 inches, slap on a 330mm wide rear, and add a host of custom parts built in-house and you've got JDA Customs' Performance Custom class winner in Chicago.
This beautiful '72 Triumph Bonneville by Analog Motorcycles won the Retro Modified class at the Ultimate Builder Chicago competition.
Kamil Podziomski brought a strong contender to Chicago in the form of his custom 2005 Buell XB12R and won the Modified Street class.

Performance Custom
Josh from JDA Customs brought out his 2007
Suzuki GSX-R1000 and took the win in the Performance Custom class. It boasts a 330 rear with a 10” over-extended swing arm and a molded tank with all custom parts built in-house by JDA Customs

Retro Modified
Tony Prust of Analog Motorcycles won the Retro Modified class with his ’72
Triumph Bonneville called 'El Matador.' The ’68 frame has been modified with a bolt-on hardtail with the front forks lowered two inches. The brass headlight was fabricated out of a vintage cigar tin and the taillight from a vintage brass bowl. Its engine was rebuilt and sports an open primary, BNR Belt Drive and Joe Hunt Magneto.

Modified Street
Kamil Podziomski stopped Gio’s win streak in the Modified Street class. Gio and Blacksmith Motoring had won this category at every Ultimate Builder round it had attended until Podziomski and his 2005 Buell XB12R custom came along. The Buell features a custom fairing, carbon fiber exhaust, EBR race ECU, custom taillight, carbon fiber rear hugger fender, heat wrapped headers and a custom rear fender.

Dave Dupor of DD Customs won the Show Dog Award sponsored by Rocking K Custom Leather for his promotion at the show. Fusion Custom Cycles won the People’s Choice Award with 'The Beast' a 2007 Hayabusa.
