Motorcycles have a funny way of bringing people together. A look out of your car window on almost any given weekend will certainly confirm this, as the legions of streetbike enthusiasts gather around their two-wheeled machines at the local Starbucks.

But this past weekend a different group of motorcyclists converged on a different motorcycling venue, and all for a very important cause. The place was Cahuilla Creek Motocross Park and the cause was a weekend of family fun all in the name of breast cancer awareness.

But an epic two days of riding at the on the perfectly groomed Anza, California track wasn't the only thing served up. The weekend charity event was filled with a slew of other activities that included live music, games, a fashion show and a KLX110 invitational mini race. There was also a raffle and silent auction in which everything from motocross gear, courtesy of Thor and Answer Racing, to parts and tools from Applied Racing and even a Kawasaki KLX110 were given away.

In the United States an estimated 180,000 men and woman will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone, making it one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers. MotoX Ride for the Cure is hoping that with the Motocross communities help together we can raise awareness and help make a difference.

The event is the brain child of Laurie Cary, a wife, mother of three, hairstylist, event organizer and most importantly-racer! Both breast cancer and motocross are something that is very dear to her. Cary's mother succumbed to breast cancer in 2002 after a 10-year battle with the disease.

"My mom, passed away in 2002 and that's when I started racing," said Cary. "There was a void in my life and motocross racing helped to fill that void. I always wanted to do an event like this in order to raise awareness and give something back."

Hundreds came out in support of the event on Saturday and were greeted with near perfect weather. All three tracks were open and had something to offer for riders of all levels and ages.

"This year's event was a total success. Saturday's turnout was more than we could have expected and if the weather would have worked with us on Sunday it would have been beyond all expectations," commented Cary.

A number of industry heavy hitters stepped up to the plate in support of this one-of-a-kind event. Kawasaki was on hand with an entire fleet of KLX110s which participants were able to put some laps on. Numerous other vendors such as Applied Racing, Dubach Racing Development, Temecula Motorsports, MotoCutz, and MotoMassage were also on hand.

If you're looking for an excuse to get out and ride with the entire family and want to feel good about doing it, then come out next year and be apart this unique event.

The First Annual MotoX Ride for the Cure is a charitable event promoted by Cahuilla Creek MX Park. All proceeds will benefit Michelle's Place, a local breast cancer resource center providing services such as: patient navigation, diagnostics, education, support and community awareness.
