Rynoland hosted this year’s Ride for the Cure event which raises money for Michelle’s Place, a Southern California breast cancer resource center.
October is national breast cancer awareness month. And what’s the best way for off-road riders to support the cause? Get out and ride. That’s what happened at Rynoland in Anza, California, site of this year’s annual Rider for the Cure.
Hundreds of riding enthusiasts made it out for the ride day and were treated to a fabulous day of riding at former professional motocross racer, Ryan Hughes’ sprawling off-road playground. Both the main track and a mini-bike track were open and fully prepped. Additionally, one could explore mile upon mile of trails inside his expansive 500-acre compound. And I have to hand it to Hughes as he has created quite a highly entertaining riding complex. The main track can be best described as challenging, since the terrain is a mix of mostly sand, with numerous uphill and downhill sections and a few jumps thrown in the mix.
Kawasaki also showed up to support the event and hosted a dirt bike school for riders who had never ridden a motorcycle off-road. The class utilized Kawasaki’s friendly KLX110 and KLX140 motorcycles. (Find out what it's like to ride in this
Kawasaki KLX140 First Ride article.) Kawasaki hopes to run a similar type program in the near future to allow more folks the opportunity to experience the joy of riding an off-road motorcycle. Area vendors including Applied Racing, Dubach Racing Development, and CRF’s Only turned out and also donated some products to be raffled.
“This is a great time,” said one father. “A few years ago my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately the doctors caught it early enough, so the kids still have a grandma. It’s basically just a good excuse to ride with my kids while showing some support and raising money for a cause close to my heart.”
Riders donned bras for the Bra Parade. The winner took home an bunch of goodies donated from some of the supporting vendors.
Lunch was provided by Wahoo’s and after riders who made a $25 donation we’re eligible for the Bra Parade, a mock race in which racers donned bras over their gear. The winner was determined by popular vote and received a bunch of goodies donated by vendors. All in all it was a great day of riding for an even better cause.
Ride for the Cure is a charitable event promoted by Laurie Cary. All proceeds will benefit Michelle's Place, a local breast cancer resource center providing services such as patient navigation, diagnostics, education, support and community awareness. Check out the website
