After purchasing the V-Strom 1000 three years ago our contributor considers the bike a top-end tourer.
The topcase held two Arai helmets, two pairs of gloves and a few assorted bits and pieces without difficulty.
Modifications consisted of new EBC race pads up front to increase stopping power and road oriented Michelin Pilot tires.
The V-Strom requires little maintenance. The only service needed over the past three years has been oil changes and tire pressure checks.
The V-Strom is a jack-of-all-trades in the motorcycle world, capable of filling numerous roles in one bike.

While the V-Strom's engine may lack the character of other touring mounts, it has proven a consistent performer.
Fuel economy is only getting better as it currently achieves more than 50 miles to a British gallon - which is just over 1.2 U.S. gallons.
