A clean user-friendly display should make glancing through your visor at the zumo as simple as possible.

Interested in GPS navigation? After my most recent navigational shortcomings in the hellhole known as Las Angeles, I've been doing some research into purchasing a GPS unit. Low and behold, in the midst of my internet-searching extravaganza, a press release from Garmin hit my inbox with another of its many high-quality options, and this one is specifically made for motorcyclists.

The zumo will be unveiled at the MotoGP at Laguna Seca this weekend where motorcycle enthusiasts from all walks of life will be able to get a hands-on look at this little gizmo. From the looks of it, the zumo has plenty to offer those of us on two wheels and the designers put some extra thought into making it useful, efficient and simple to operate while riding. The oversized touch screen buttons should leave plenty of room for your gloved fingers to find their mark, and the control buttons have been placed on the left side so that throttle application won't be affected while toggling through the many options.

Some of the key features include:

- Bright sunlight-readable, UV-resistant display makes it easy to view the screen
- Motorcycle console for trip information, including fuel gauge
- Motorcycle mount with universal mounting hardware and automotive mount (with integrated speaker) for riding or driving
- Custom caps, available in a variety of colors, to reflect your style
- Turn-by-turn voice directions that speak street names
- Optional XM radio, traffic and weather information
Choosing between 2D or 3D maps will give riders the most fun they ve ever had following directions.

- Bluetooth wireless technology for hands-free calling and navigation audio prompts
- Motorcycle and vehicle power cables
- Pre-loaded and customizable Points of Interest
- Unit dimensions: 4.8" W x 3.9" H x 1.6" D
- Built-in MP3 player and JPEG Picture Viewer
- Choose 2D or 3D map perspective
- Includes Garmin LockT, an anti-theft feature
- Water, gas and shockproof

The MSRP will be a whopping $1076.91, but if motorcycles are your main source of transportation then the zumo could be exactly what you are looking for. It offers some decent off-road potential but a three-hour battery will limit dirt bike usage. If you are headed to Monterey to see if Nicky Hayden can retain his American Grand Prix crown, stop by the Garmin tent to see for yourself. Otherwise go to www.garmin.com for more information.
