Pursang 450 Dirt Bike First Look

Monday, December 22, 2008
Two men from Spain intend to give the Bultaco Pursang a rebirth of sorts with a new motorcycle company called Pursang. These modern machines will pay homage to the successful Spanish bikes of yesteryear with styling cues that resemble the famed ‘Taco. So far the available info is limited to a few CAD designs, but manufacturing of the prototype is slated to begin in early 2009. An ambitious undertaking, keep your eyes peeled to see if this operation flies or flops.

The following is a press release from Pursang Motors:

Pursang motors is attempting to bring together some of the unique values of motocross bikes from the 70 s with the modern touches of today s motocross bikes.

This Project started at the end of 2000 when Jim Palau-Ribes and Roger Gubert were studying Industrial design and business. It started as a hobby combining the passion for off-road motorcycles and design and the romantic idea of the reborn of the Spanish motorcycles success from the sixties and seventies. Since then Jim has been working as a car designer around Europe and Roger started his own company , but always kept working on the project during the free time. Nowadays with the experience gained in the industry and design, Jim is making a motocross bike project and Roger with the experience gained in fashion and industry will make merchandising and fashion products sharing the same philosophy.

The PURSANG 450 is a genuine modern motocross bike with a “retro-futurist” style and some references to the “twin shock” bikes from the sixties and seventies. The frame combines aluminium tub and casted and is projected thinking on make the centre of gravity and the seat lower, making the Pursang lower than the actual motocross bikes. It has a 450 4 stroke engine and possibly another option is a 250 4 stroke. The fork and the dumper are from Öhlins.

Nowadays the Project is work in progress with the concept and design finished with a virtual model and the prototype will start at he beginning of 2009.

Pursang appears to also be considering a 250 along with its 450 design.

“We thought that the Project should keep the essence from the golden era of the Spanish motorcycles brands and the dynamic qualities similar to those bikes (off course improved qualities). We wanted to know what were we speaking about, to have a deepest knowledge , to know the history we didn´t live, to know the bikes we never had and we restored two original ´75 Pursangs'.

We studied and tried to deeply know this motorbikes and brands and translated into a modern bike”.

The Pursang Project wants to make motorbikes and leisure products with the same philosophy based on genuine products and quality. “We want to do innovative projects, exclusive and made carefully with a handcraft quality. Products are made in our country, in small factories together with the small and medium industry and combining with new technologies.

The Pursang brand is a registered trademark in Europe and United States, and the design of the project as well in the OAMI with the reference: 000928494-0001
