The MX1 start was shy a handful of Honda riders due to injury. Kevin Strijbos had a broken scaphoid, Marc De Reuver sustained a dislocated hip and three broken vertebrae, Cedric Melotte had back problems, Billy Mackenzie had an injured thumb.
