The Wild Coast, as the name suggests, is rugged and treacherous, with numerous shipwrecks along its deserted beaches.

Craggy, rocky and untamed, the Wild Coast is the highlight of the Eastern Cape with countless natural attractions.
A few kilometers out of the city of Johannesburg, the landscape changed drastically, replaced by fields of grass and mud huts.
The Wild Coast is largely unspoiled by development, which is good for riders looking for an authentic, natural experience. Restrictions are in place to keep it that way though, and riding is forbidden on the beaches.
Customs were a bit different in South Africa.

Where else are you going to see zebras grazing on grass during a day's ATV ride?
While some of the ride was easy going on long dirt roads, other portions were tricky and technical, offering a fantastic variety during the trip.
The group stopped to visit a big cat breeder during the final days of the trip. It was better to the cats chew the gear than your leg.
We got to play with all the baby cats, but even at 6 months old they're starting to bite a bit too hard.

Some moments were sublime during the adventure in South Africa, like running alongside the animals through vast fields of grass.
As the ride reached the Imbabala Lodge, we came upon giraffes that would often walk up to the cabins in the morning.
The giraffes didn't quite know what to make of the ATVs.

There is no better way to see a foreign land than by quad. The people we met along the way were just one of the reasons this trip went way beyond a dull bus tour of the countryside.

The scenery and variety of terrain made the adventure in South Africa like none other.
South Africa is a place rich in natural beauty unmarred by the outside world. It was incredible to learn the history and about the people firsthand.
