The AXO Air Cage takes place of a chest protector and incorporates added safety features.
Riding dirt bikes is inherently dangerous, so when it comes time to ride whether at the motocross track or out on the trail you can never have enough protective gear. That's why whenever we ride we strap on every piece of gear we can get our hands on, including the AXO Air Cage.
The Air Cage is a protective jacket that you wear underneath your jersey. It takes place of a chest protector—shielding you from rocks being kicked up by your buddy in front of you. But that's where the similarities end. The jacket incorporates additional protection courtesy of the integrated plastic shoulder, forearm, and elbow guards. An integrated back protector and kidney belt makes it the single piece of protection for your upper body.
AXO's affordable body armor is constructed out of a nylon mesh and slides like a jacket. A front zipper makes sure that the piece stays in place and the Velcro kidney belt not only helps keep it in place, but keeps your internals from getting rattled around when you're blasting through the rough stuff. Fit is on the slim side, so order one size larger than the t-shirt you'd normally wear.

The integrated back protector is a nice touch and has saved us more times than we care to admit.
Despite the relatively reasonable $149.99 MSRP, the jacket is of pretty good quality. It's lightweight and the mesh construction doesn't let you get too hot while riding. Care needs to be exercised when getting in and out of the jacket as your fingers can easily pierce through the nylon mesh tearing the jacket and rendering it progressively useless as the tear gets larger.
Protection offered by the jacket is well worth the price. We've taken countless crashes and falls with it on and its done a pretty amazing job of keeping us from major rash and/or significant injury. However, the shoulder pads are a little small even for a person of smaller body frame size.
Arm pump is an adverse side effect of its use, but by loosening the X-shaped tension bands around the forearm and elbow area its effects are lessened. And after each use dreaded arm pump became progressively less.

Crashes happen. Why not protect as much of your body as possible.
After taking a couple crashes with the Air Cage and being able to keep riding with minimal body damage its use is now mandatory. What's even better is that the jacket is versatile enough to be used while mountain biking, snowboarding, or any other sport that has some element of dangerous ground impact. If you're looking for affordable piece of equipment that can take the place of your standard issue roost guard AXO's got you covered.
