Yesterday the racetrack portion of Superbike Smackdown began. After a year hiatus we returned to northern California’s Thunderhill Raceway as it offers more optimum environment to test the acceleration, handling and braking performance of liter-class equipment. A surprise, last minute addition by MV Agusta (shout to Southern California’s Moto Forza for making it happen) made it a nine-bike contest—our biggest shootout ever.

Hey all, right now we’re amidst our Superbike Smackdown comparison test. We wanted to share the power figures acquired during dyno testing comparing the ’12 Ducati 1199 Panigale against last year’s 1198 Superbike. As you can see the new bike generates substantially more top end power and is the most powerful production V-Twin engine we've ever tested. But all that extra high rpm oomph’ comes at the cost of reduced bottom and mid-range performance.
