RK Race Kit Sprocke and Chain
As dirt bike sprockets and chains need to be replaced around the same time, it makes sense to do both simultaneously.
The Score

Replacing a motorcycle chain or sprocket is basic maintenance, but it can be a hassle and doing them separately only doubles the misery. Most standard chains and aluminum rear sprockets have roughly the same lifespan, so swapping them at the same time is usually a good idea. Our stock units on a 2008 Yamaha YZ250F were getting pretty worn, and we needed to fiddle with the gearing to better suit our needs anyway. Rather than dig around and find three different components, we ordered up an RK MX “Z” Race Kit to eliminate the entire headache.

The Scoop

We opted for a one-tooth larger rear for some extra grunt so the solution was a Q/A (quick acceleration) kit which boosted the rear sprocket one tooth. The black anodized 7075 T6 aluminum rear has yet to show signs of wear and the gold steel countershaft sprocket is even more durable. After a couple rides, the rear teeth have been rubbed clean of the anodizing, but otherwise, the sprockets are holding up exceptionally well. An RK Z type MX chain with gold inner and outer plates is also included at the appropriate length (114 links). The kit comes ready to be installed and the only maintenance thus far is standard adjustments; chain stretch has been typical.

The Sentence

RK Race Kit Sprocke and Chain
Purchasing both the sprocket and chain together in a kit can same money for the budget rider.
I’m admittedly bad about trying to get a couple more rides out of a chain or sprocket. Saving almost $40 by purchasing a kit makes it easy to justify freshening things up, and replacing all three components at once ensures less chance of mechanical failure. RK also offers kits with steel sprockets and an ATV/Off-road kit with a sealed ring chain and optional steel/aluminum cogs. Considering the awesome pricing, ease of a single order and a package that arrives ready to install, the Vortex/RK sprocket kit is something every rider should take advantage of. Check out the website for proper sizing.
