The $279.95 GYTR Power Tuner is one of the simplest tools to adjust the EFI and ignition settings on your fuel-injected YZ450F MX’er.
Electronic fuel injection has summoned a new age for today’s motocross bikes. Of all the new FI-equipped dirt bikes, Yamaha offers the simplest and most affordable way to adjust the power delivery characteristics on the
YZ450F with its $279.95
GYTR Power Tuner.
The GYTR Power Tuner is a small easy-to-use handheld device that allows you to modify the engine’s fuel and ignition maps thereby altering the powerband of the motorcycle based on track conditions or rider preference. The GYTR tool is fully self-contained in a durable blue plastic housing and powered by two double-A batteries. Furthermore, it does not require an external power source or an additional computer/software to operate.
To use it, simply plug it into the plastic receptacle located at the front left-hand side of the bike near the steering headstock and then press the power button. The engine does not need to be running to edit or install maps.
Once connected, navigate to the Setting menu. There you’ll see a separate nine-position grid for fuel and ignition. The X-axis represents engine RPM in 4000, 6500, and 9000 increments. The Y-axis represents throttle position in 1/8, 3/8, and 6/8 increments.

With the GYTR Power Tuner you can modify the power delivery characteristics of the engine based on track conditions or rider preference.
To adjust the fuel map enter an integer between -7 and 7. Each value represents a 3% change in fuel injector duration. So if you want the bike the engine to run richer (more fuel) enter a positive number. Conversely for a leaner setting (less fuel) input a negative value. Ignition settings can be modified from -9 to +4 with each value representing a one degree change in engine timing. A positive value advances timing while a negative value retards it.
The Power Tuner allows you to store up to nine combined fuel and ignition maps. You can also download free maps from
www.yamaha-motor.com. A built-in fail-safe ensure that the settings won’t cause damage to the engine. Furthermore you always revert to the stock settings by inputting each field with a zero. A Monitor function lets you view engine run time (resettable), idle speed, air and coolant temperature, atmospheric pressure and throttle position opening plus fault codes for diagnosis.
