THQ has finally brought consumers the MX game they have been asking for since the beginning-bikes that behave like real bikes. If you have followed the business of video games, you already know the story. Sony's ATV Off-Road Fury is the best motorcycle game available. That's because it uses Rainbow Studio physics. The ATVs act like real machines. No game with bikes really does it right up till now. Those other games featured bikes that looked like cartoons that jump around on scenes that looked like tracks. Then there's the hard-core gamers favorite: Motocross Madness 2. Even though it is only available for PCs it is still one of the most popular games on the market and guess what? Rainbow Studios made it! The bikes and riders look and act like real bikes. Unfortunately, gaming magazines always seem to hate MX games, because in part that the game-play has always been too bland.
At last the game consumers have waited for is here. It's MX Unleashed, the XBox/PS2 game created by Rainbow Studios. The game is better than MM2 even. Not only do the bikes act like the ATVs do in O-R Fury, but they actually respond like you expect a dirt-bike too respond. You get a clutch that acts like a clutch to burst out of a turn or shut off the momentum just a little in a rhythm section. When you make different lines in a turn, the rider moves around like a real rider does which makes it look incredibly realistic. You can even throw the bike sideways and "scrub speed" by staying low on jumps. And, if you really want to get crazy, you can do backflips...just watch out for Steve Whitelock who wants to take your points.

When you make different lines in a turn, the rider moves around like a real rider does which makes it look incredibly realistic.
To get your lap times down on MX Unleashed, you need to learn a combination of good lines, the clutch and the suspension preload. It will also help if you keep the front end light in whoops. Compared to ATV Off-Road Fury, this game is like moving up one class. It's harder, but learning pays off when you start clicking off fast lap times. You would think whoever made it knew MX or something, and you would be right. You can thank Stephane Roncada for the game's realism. Well, him and some Rainbow Studios programmers...
The game has SX, MX and other world gaming options. You can even put the bike away and hit the tracks with a realistic-acting monster truck if you get bored!
So, the days of MX fans having to get their game jollies on an ATV game are finally over. MX Unleashed hits stores Feb 16th, and its going to change everything. This game has the best chance of getting SX/MX games off the "most hated" list from those gaming magazines, and thats good for both THQ and the sport. Just don't make any plans for when you get yours. Take a few days off. Call in sick. Quit your job. Just play it.
