The Score

In an industry that has become oversaturated with cloned videos, the motorcycling DVD makers are turning away from FMX and motocross to explore other avenues of racing. Enduro riding is just as enjoyable and exciting to watch as any other form, and the Duke Video crew chose the most dominant rider in today's off-road scene to feature. David Knight is undeniably the best all-around rider for the time being, and truly is the Iron Man of Enduro.

The Scoop

The video takes a chronological look at the most prolific off-road rider ever to come out of the Isle of Man. Starting with his childhood background, the relationship with his father, Paul and older brother, Juan, were instrumental in developing his love for riding. Even his mother, Marion, was keen on the men in her life riding two-wheelers. Knight started out as a trials rider and was soon winning everything in the Manx world and then moved onto Britain where his success continued.

Shaun Fox was the man who introduced Knight to enduro and prompted the switch out of trials, something the entire GNCC field probably wishes never happened. As narrator Charley Boorman continues, it's easy to see the pattern of ultimate domination that follows DK from one venue to the next (I moved this sentence to make it read easier) as the video proceeds through Knighter's run at the British Enduro Championships and then World Enduro with Factory Yamaha and KTM.

After establishing his racing background, the format turns from championship series to focus on extreme endures, including the 2006 Weston Beach race, Enduro at Erzberg and Red Bull Last Man Standing. These extreme events were very instrumental in getting the American racers and fans to take note of Knight, and it was a forecast of the approaching storm. That maelstrom would land on America's Atlantic coast where it blew through the 2007 Grand National Cross Country and AMA Endurocross series, both of which he took top honors.

The 120-minute run time doesn't count a list of extras that include The Tough One 2007, WBR 2007 Pre race chat with Knight, Paul Edmondson and Stefan Everts, David's 5-year-old nephew, Thomas Knight, and helmet-cam footage of KTM 250 XC and 450 SX testing on a very rough Isle of Man track. Even after the credits rolled and we panned through every scrap of additional footage, there were still segments where we couldn't comprehend a damn word the Manxman was saying, but that's part of the fun in understanding this off-road anomaly - literally trying to understand him!

The Sentence

It's hard not to like Knight with his goofy smile and easy-going take on the world's hardest competitions. DK is one of the most competitive enduro riders on the planet, though you'd hardly know it by listening to his pre- and post-race interviews. After learning about his racing and family history, and seeing how the loss of his father just before earning his first World Championship affected Knight, viewers will have a greater appreciation for the title holder as a normal guy rather than an enduro demigod - not to mention being awestruck by his accomplishments.

Duke Video knows how to make an entertaining piece, and this is no different. Director Mike McKnight did his homework and has orchestrated a blend of exciting riding footage, insightful interviews and engaging soundtracks that is definitely worth two hours of your time. With the current exchange rate, postage for a letter to Congress that urges the US government to get its poop all in one pile would be more affordable than the nearly $34 dollars required for this video. However, the quality and quantity are worth the inflated price.
