Motorcycle USA Headed to Dealer Expo 2012

Wednesday, February 15, 2012
Motorcycle USA is packing up its bags and heading to Indy for the 2012 Dealer Expo, the biggest, baddest trade and industry show of the year. We’ll be setting up at Booth #5073, next to the AMA and 100 Years of Motorcycling booths, so stop by to say “Hi” if you’re going to the show. We’ll have the custom 2011 Honda Fury motorcycle we’re giving away as sponsors of the Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Shows’ “People’s Choice” award on hand for people to check out, TV monitors will be running some of our high def videos, and we’ll be eager to meet and greet friends from throughout the motorcycle industry. Grab some MotoUSA schwag while you’re there.

Bell helmets had a Graphic Artist on hand showcasing the paint process that takes place before a design becomes production.
Skratch doing it old school style on a Bell helmet. He'll be working his pinstriping magic again this year at the 2012 Dealer Expo.
This year’s show will be particularly interesting to me as Motorcycle USA’s Cruiser Editor because it will be the first year of the American V-Twin Dealer Show. They’ve never had a show that catered specifically to the custom and cruiser crowd before, so I look forward to attending the inaugural event. Organizers have some cool events planned, like the first-ever Ultimate Dealer Custom Bike Show, seminars conducted by Biker Pros Bob Kay and Victory’s Robert Pandya, Jody Perewitz, the first woman to break the 200 mph barrier on a V-Twin will be doing a meet and greet, and Cobra Engineering will have a special display called “20 Years of Customs.”

We plan on tagging along with the “Media Day” tour Friday morning where we’ll get shepherded around to various booths breaking ground with new products. There will be a little bit of everything, from VP Racing Fuels debuting two new powersports fuels to River Road introducing its Grateful Dead Cruiser Collection of apparel and helmets. Bell Helmets will be presenting the successor to its Mag-8 called appropriately the Mag-9 and Skratch will be in their booth doing some old school free-hand pinstriping on Custom 500 helmets. Parts Unlimited is going to unveil Icon’s new product line, the Icon 1000, riding gear built rugged enough to survive the apocalypse while BlackSmith Motoring Co., who’s been killin’ it on the Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show tour, will unveil a custom Yamaha Roadliner with the company’s Retroliner Kit on it. We’re also hoping to hit up BRD to witness the unveiling of its 2013 RedShift MX electric motocrosser.

Then there are the meetings and functions. We’d like to hook up with the good people over at the National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council to hear about the latest issues they’re dealing with, the Motorcycle Industry Council will be holding a breakfast and auction for the Right Rider Access Fund with special guests Mark Blackwell and Kevin Schwantz, Dealernews is holding its annual Top 100 Dealer Luncheon, and I hear there might be an industry party or two going on to fill up our nights.

Lots of good stuff coming from the 2012 Dealer Expo. Be sure to stop by our booth if you’re going to the show, and if not, log on to Motorcycle USA for daily updates from the scene. Follow us on Twitter, too, as we’ll be breaking news and posting pictures from the show.
